Lovely A.H. Rodanet silver cased pocket watch, ca. 1900’s.
The watch is offered as is, for you to restore.
Auguste Hilaire Rodanet, son of Julien Hilaire Rodanet and uncle to Henri Rodanet, was born on 5 June 1837 in Rochefort Sur Mer, France. He was one of the most prominent French watchmaking figures of the 19th century, Chronometer constructeur, merchant, and representative of Patek Philippe in France.
The original Breguet enamel dial is in good condition with only minor hairline at 5 position. Dial features fat black Breguet numerals and black painted indexed minute track and recessed seconds.
It is fitted with a lovely blued Poire hands set, in fair condition.
The small dome crystal is in fair condition, however it needs attention as it doesn’t always stay fit.
Elegant silver case opens and closes nicely with a crisp sound and shows various age related or wear marks.
Case remains in original, never-refurbished condition.
Case stamped G*P in an Oval and matching serial number, 15.957 as well stamped to the movement ratchet wheel bridge.
Nice frost gilt finished 19 jewel mechanism cal. 19″ with Reeds regulator and and escape wheel cap jewel. All parts finished to A.H. Rodanet manufacture exigence.
Diameter of the watch excluding the pendant is ~49.30 mm.
Diameter including pendant ~68.70 mm. Thickness is ~13.10mm.
The watch is in not working and would need repair. Among observed problems, winding mechanism needs attention.
Balance turns freely, however there is corrosion to the crown and ratchet wheel, as well to the regulator.
